Both were mothers of very young children.
Clifford D. Miller, 31, is charged with two counts of first-degree murder for the deaths of Britny Haarup, 19 and Ashley Key, 22, both of Edgerton, Mo.
Authorities say Miller was high on Methamphetamine on Friday morning when he went to Haarup’s home with the intention to have sex with Haarup. They were acquaintances with no romantic history, according to authorities.
Miller allegedly entered the home to find Key asleep on the couch. After a brief confrontation, authorities say Miller beat and smothered Key with a pillow.
Miller then allegedly went upstairs where Haarup was sleeping and struck her with an object before smothering her with a pillow.
Authorities say Miller then stole a white pickup truck and dumped the bodies of Haarup and Key near a tree line on a Clinton County field, where they were recovered Sunday night.
The girls were first reported missing on Friday night, when Haarup’s fiancé returned home to find both of them missing.
On Saturday, authorities found the missing truck abandoned near the Clinton County field.
Platte County Sherriff Richard Anderson said a citizen came forward who saw Miller driving the truck in question.
Further investigation showed that Miller was allegedly attempting to sell firearms similar to guns stolen from Haarup’s home.
